Summer Party 2018

Sunday, 24 June 2018 12:00 until Sunday, 24 June 2018 18:00

Everyone is welcome to the Summer Party on Sunday 24 June from 12 noon.  Please bring a picnic, rugs and chairs. The party is free and everyone living in Britannia Square, Albany Terrace and Stephenson Terrace is invited. Thank you to RGS Springfield for letting us enjoy their gardens and school hall. There will be plenty of outdoor games and the party will take place whatever the weather. If you are able to organise games and races please let one of the committee know.

If you are new to the area, we all want to meet you. Please come and bring your family and friends. It’s a great opportunity for neighbours to get together for a relaxing afternoon.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the party a success. Numbers were a bit down on last year - I counted 35 people - but everyone enjoyed it, the food was delicious and the beautiful shady garden was the perfect place to be on a sunny afternoon.

Angela Lanyon’s poetry was a delight and gives a lovely humorous focus to our parties. Thanks to David and Robin for organising viewing arrangements for the football and to everyone who helped with the setting up and clearing up. It definitely helps having RGS’s sports day marquee.

We were glad to welcome a new neighbour, Ann Cowper, who will be moving into 20 BS soon with her family.

All three City Ward Councillors came as guests: Lynn Denham with Paul, Allah Ditta, and Jabba Riaz. We were particularly honoured to have Jabba and his wife Sajeeda with us; they are serving as this year’s Mayor and Mayoress. They brought their young children along with them for a bit of relaxation before a Civic Service later in the afternoon. Simon Geraghty, leader of the County Council and our Riverside County Councillor also spent the afternoon with us.

We are grateful to Laura Brown and all at RGS Springfield for their generosity in giving us a free run of their premises for the day.

Jabba Riaz summarised his feelings about the event in the Mayor’s Column in the Worcester News: ‘I was privileged to be invited to the Britannia Square Garden Party - an event that has been a regular in my calendar.  It’s a great event for all the community in the area to come together and celebrate the year; an uplifting and joyous occasion.’
